Affinda alternative

HireLayer vs Affinda: two resume parsers, two different scopes

Affinda’s new Resume Parser and HireLayer CV Extract look alike on the wire: one synchronous multipart call, JSON back. The differences are in what surrounds the parser: Affinda offers self-hosting, regional instances and redaction, while HireLayer puts job parsing, explained matching and ranking behind the same self-serve key and credit balance.

Key differences

Four differences that decide most evaluations

Affinda now ships two resume APIs: a stateless Resume Parser (v1) launched in 2026 and the older Affinda Platform (v3), where job descriptions, Search & Match and redaction live. Most of the comparison depends on which of the two you use today.

  1. 01

One parser, or one recruiting API set

Affinda’s v1 parser is a separate service from the v3 Platform that hosts job description parsing and Search & Match, and Search & Match is offered on request. HireLayer’s five APIs share one X-API-Key and one credit balance, and every plan can call all of them.

  2. 02

Price at low and mid volume

Affinda’s self-serve rate is US$0.10 per document. HireLayer’s paid plans and packs work out to €0.045–0.058 per credit. From roughly 10,000 CVs a month, Affinda’s annual hosted plans close the gap, and at 50,000 a month they are cheaper than HireLayer’s public packs.

  3. 03

    Where the parser can run

Affinda runs separate AU, US and EU instances and sells a self-hosted container that verifies its licence offline. HireLayer is hosted only, with no region choice and no on-premise option. If the CV must not leave your infrastructure, Affinda covers a case HireLayer does not.

  4. 04

    Fields each API normalizes

Affinda’s v1 schema adds date precision, tenure metrics and a redacted copy of the text. HireLayer adds CEFR language levels, EQF education levels, contract types, mobility cities and French ROME occupation codes. Pick the one whose fields your product already stores.

Hosting, speed and integrations

Where your CVs are processed, and how HireLayer plugs in compared with Affinda

HireLayer parses in France and keeps AI processing in the EU. Fast mode is in beta and connectors are built on request: the statuses below say exactly that, next to what the other vendor documents.

HireLayer has no marketplace apps yet. Connectors for Zapier, Make, Salesforce, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday, Tableau or your ATS are built by our team on request; in the meantime every API works from any HTTP step, with an optional webhook on each parse.

Affinda statuses come from its own documentation and the tools’ marketplaces. “Via API” means no connector exists but the API can be called from that tool.

Cost per CV

Affinda pricing vs HireLayer pricing

Both vendors bill one unit per successful parse, so the unit prices compare directly. Affinda prices in US dollars and HireLayer in euros; USD equivalents use the ECB reference rate and are shown only as a guide.

CVs parsed per month

HireLayer

€89 / month

Scale plan · €0.045 per CV · ≈ $101 / month

Affinda

$200 / month

Self-serve at US$0.10 per document · $0.10 per CV

Lowest published option that covers the volume, at list prices. Excludes enterprise quotes and first-purchase offers. HireLayer credits are shared by all APIs; this assumes they all go to parsing. Bars compare USD equivalents at the ECB reference rate of 2026-09-30 (€1 = $1.1355).

Reading the numbers

Up to about 2,000 CVs a month, HireLayer’s published plans cost roughly half of Affinda’s self-serve rate. Around 10,000 a month the two are close: €449 for HireLayer against US$500 a month on Affinda’s annual plan. At 50,000 a month Affinda’s annual plan is about half the price of HireLayer’s public packs, so ask us for an Enterprise quote before comparing at that volume.

Analysis

Formats, API design and extraction in detail

What changes for an engineering team that already runs Affinda in production.

01

Two Affinda APIs, one HireLayer contract

If you integrated Affinda before 2026, you probably call the Platform API (api.affinda.com/v3): upload a document to a workspace, wait or poll, then read fields that carry bounding boxes and confidence values. The new Resume Parser at resume-parser.affinda.com/v1 drops all of that: one request, nothing stored, a sparse {data, meta} response.

HireLayer’s V3 parser sits closer to Affinda v1. The difference is scope: job criteria, matching, skills normalization and ranking are separate endpoints on the same host and key, so a team adding matching later does not open a second integration or a sales conversation.

02

Formats and long documents

Affinda accepts a wider image set (GIF, TIFF, WEBP) and spreadsheet formats such as XLSX and ODS, plus HTML and SVG. HireLayer accepts PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX, ODP), which Affinda rejects for .ppt.

Page limits work differently. Affinda accepts files up to 20 MB but only reads fields from the first 20 pages and runs OCR on the first 3. HireLayer caps the encoded request at 6 MiB and the extracted text at 100,000 characters, and rejects longer documents with a 422 DOCUMENT_TOO_LARGE code instead of truncating them.

03

What the JSON gives you

Affinda’s v1 schema is sparse: a field that was not found is absent, while lists are always present. HireLayer returns the full key set, with null for missing values. Code that relied on key presence needs a small change either way.

Each schema has fields the other lacks. Affinda returns dates with a year, month or day precision, tenure metrics (total, average and longest tenure, gaps) and a redacted copy of the text. HireLayer returns availability, mobility cities with coordinates, CEFR language levels, EQF education levels, a canonical contract type and ROME occupation codes. A French staffing product uses the second set directly; a US ATS may need the first.

04

Hosting, AI processing and security

Affinda’s Resume Parser runs in the region you call: Sydney, Oregon or Frankfurt. Documents sent to v1 are not kept; on the Platform they are kept until you delete them or set an expiry, and blocking cross-region inference has to be requested. Affinda also publishes ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type 2 and sells a self-hosted container.

HireLayer parses CVs in Paris, France and stores files and extracted photos there, serving photos through short-lived signed links. Its in-house AI pipeline processes CV content in the EU, so AI processing stays in Europe but is not pinned to France. The web app is hosted in Europe. Its ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications are in progress, and it has no on-premise option.

If your requirement is processing in France, HireLayer meets it and Affinda’s regions do not. If it is a completed SOC 2 report or on-premise processing, Affinda meets it today and HireLayer does not yet.

Which to choose

When HireLayer fits, and when Affinda is the better choice

Both lists come from the comparison above. If most of your requirements sit in the right-hand column, stay where you are.

Choose HireLayer when…

  • You want CV parsing, job criteria, explained matching and ranking under one self-serve key and one credit balance.
  • You parse fewer than about 10,000 CVs a month and want monthly plans with no annual commitment.
  • Your product needs CEFR levels, EQF education levels, mobility cities or French ROME codes.
  • Candidates send PowerPoint CVs, or CVs longer than 20 pages that must be read in full.

Stay with Affinda when…

  • You must self-host the parser or pick an AU, US or EU instance.
  • Your security review requires ISO 27001 or a SOC 2 Type 2 report.
  • You need redacted CV text for blind screening, or field-level confidence and bounding boxes (Platform).
  • You parse 50,000+ CVs a month and can commit to an annual plan.

  1. STEP 01

    Swap the call

Replace the Bearer header with X-API-Key and post the same multipart file to /api/v3/parser. Pass your own reference as application_id.

  2. STEP 02

    Map fields and nulls

Apply the mapping above and read missing values as null rather than absent keys. Dates arrive as ISO strings without a precision flag.

  3. STEP 03

    Handle 422 codes

Replace the classification-label check with handling for DOCUMENT_NOT_A_RESUME, DOCUMENT_UNREADABLE and DOCUMENT_TEXT_EMPTY.

  4. STEP 04

Run both on the same files

Send a sample of your own permissioned CVs to both APIs and compare the fields you store before switching traffic.

FAQ

HireLayer vs Affinda: questions buyers ask

Where does HireLayer process CVs compared with Affinda?

HireLayer parses CVs in Paris, France and stores files and extracted photos there; its in-house AI pipeline processes CV content in the EU. Affinda’s Resume Parser runs in the region you call (Sydney, Oregon or Frankfurt) and keeps no copy on v1, and it also offers a self-hosted container.

Is HireLayer cheaper than Affinda?

At published self-serve prices, yes up to roughly 2,000 CVs a month: €24 for 500 credits or €89 for 2,000, against US$0.10 per document on Affinda. Around 10,000 a month the totals are close, and at 50,000 a month Affinda’s annual hosted plan costs less than HireLayer’s public credit packs. Use the calculator above with your own volume.

Can HireLayer be self-hosted like Affinda?

No. HireLayer is a hosted API only, with no on-premise container and no region choice. If parsing must happen inside your own infrastructure, Affinda’s self-hosted Resume Parser covers that and HireLayer does not.

Does HireLayer detect documents that are not CVs?

Yes. Where Affinda returns a classification label and confidence in meta, HireLayer returns HTTP 422 with DOCUMENT_NOT_A_RESUME, DOCUMENT_UNREADABLE or DOCUMENT_TEXT_EMPTY, and no profile is created. Failed parses do not consume credits on either service.

Which parser is more accurate?

Neither vendor has published a benchmark you can reproduce. Affinda’s accuracy figures compare it with unnamed competitors on an undisclosed dataset, and HireLayer has no published benchmark. Run the same permissioned CVs through both APIs and score the fields you store.

Do I need to change my Affinda job description and matching flows?

Only if you move them. HireLayer Job Extract returns weighted criteria rather than a full job record, and HireLayer Match evaluates one candidate against those criteria per request, with no index to maintain. If you rely on searching a stored pool of candidates, keep a search engine on your side; HireLayer does not host one.
